6-9 year old review: A+
Dad review: B+

My dad and I saw Indiana Jones 4 today and I really enjoyed it. There were a few scenes where my dad covered my eyes, but it wasn’t too scary. Compared to the previous installments, this one was just as good or better than the Last Crusade. Check out the Movie Blog’s review:

Indiana Jones the Last Crusade Reveiw

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

6-9 year old rating: A
Dad rating: A-

Last night, instead of checking out the new Indiana Jones, Dad and I decided (mainly he decided) that we would watch the third installment of Indiana Jones The last Crusade. The movie began with a flash back to Indiana’s youth and I think this set the stage for a great story. I loved it, perhaps more than the first one and definitely more than the second. Check out the trailer:

Also, here is the preview from the game that comes out in a couple of weeks:

Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom Review

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

6-9 year old rating: B
Dad rating: B-

Last weekend Dad and I watched the first Indian Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, in preparation for the latest installment of the series. This evening we watched the Temple of Doom released in 1984. Once again, my Dad kept explaining how this movie would be rated PG-13 if it were released today.

Son of Rambow Review

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

6-9 year old rating: A
Dad rating: A-

Son of Rambow was a hit at Sundance Film Festival. I really enjoyed the movie. My dad liked it too. Basically, the show is set in the 1980s (i.e. when my dad was a kid) and follows the adventures of two kids making a movie of the same name (Son of Rambow). The Movie Blog’s synopsis is better than mine:

sonoframboSON OF RAMBOW is the name of the home movie made by two little boys with a big video camera and even bigger ambitions. Set on a long English summer in the early 80’s, SON OF RAMBOW is a comedy about friendship, faith and the tough business of growing up. We see the story through the eyes of Will, the eldest son of a fatherless Plymouth Brethren family. The Brethren regard themselves as God’s ‘chosen ones’ and their strict moral code means that Will has never been allowed to mix with the other ‘worldlies,’ listen to music or watch TV, until he finds himself caught up in the extraordinary world of Lee Carter, the school terror and maker of bizarre home movies. Carter exposes Will to a pirate copy of Rambo: First Blood and from that moment Will’s mind is blown wide open and he’s easily convinced to be the stuntman in Lee Carters’ diabolical home movie. Will’s imaginative little brain is not only given chance to flourish in the world of film making, but is also very handy when it comes to dreaming up elaborate schemes to keep his partnership with Lee Carter a secret from the Brethren community. Will and Carter’s complete disregard for consequences and innocent ambition means that the process of making their film is a glorious rollercoaster that eventually leads to true friendship. They start to make a name for themselves at school as movie makers but when popularity descends on them in the form of the Pied Piper-esque French exchange student, Didier Revol, their unique friendship and their precious film are pushed, quite literally, to breaking point.”

I never saw Rambo and my dad said it wasn’t terribly appropriate for me, but he suggested that you might want to catch up on the movie classic:

Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

6-9 year old rating: A
Dad rating: A

To get prepared for the release of the latest Indiana Jones installment, Dad and I are watching the first three movies. Today we watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. My dad was ten when the movie was released. My dad was a little shocked by some of the violence (he told me this movie would be rated PG-13 if it were released today). Good stuff!
